Could you write down for me your opinion of real meaning of ZOMBIE ???

I'd like to help one teacher who is trying to use this song as educative subject for his students.

Who is actually ZOMBIE ??? This song is about war ( with pointing especially irish civil war from 1916 ). Are Zombies soldiers ?? 

could any of you add some more ideas about meaning of these lyrics ???
