I don't like Sisters of Mercy and the Mission much,but I like Bauhaus and I absolutely love Clan of Xymox!

i love love love love tegan and sara i was just listening to their album the con! they're amazing :)

I recommend:

• Frou Frou and its singer Imogen Heap. She produced quite a lot songs for movies and television, e.g. in Garden State, O.C. California, Shrek 2, Just Like Heaven,... Her music is, well, I can't describe it very well. Maybe as pop and rock and electronica and something called ambient. Very good!
• The Cardigans. Surely some of you know. Most popular is "Lovefool" to Romeo+Juliet.
• No Doubt. Knows (supposingly) everyone because of "Don't Speak" and its singer Gwen Stefani
• Wir Sind Helden. For me the best german band. Something like rock to pop
• Heather Nova.
• Alanis Morissette.

Other Recommedations: 

Catherine Wheel - Love this band they sound a little bit like Oasis. Actually Catherine Wheel proceeded Oasis by a year, I think.

Happy Mondays - Like Oasis another great band from Manchester, England.

The Sundays - Only put out 3 albums in their time but all of them were exceptional. Lead Vocalist Harriet Wheeler had the voice of angel.

Belly - Fronted by now solo-artist Tanya Donelly. Another great 90's band that once graced the cover of Rolling Stone.

elastica - Never put out a bad album. Their self-titled debut record Elastica was so good, it knocked Oasis's Definitely Maybe album out of the number one spot and for a while was the fastest selling debut album in UK history. I love this band.

Last I heard Harriet Wheeler and her husband guitarist David Gavurin were raising a family in the English countryside. Love The Sundays, great band.

Pretty much all of my favorite artists have already been suggested. The Cure, The Smiths and Morrissey being my favs of the group. Though A-ha is awesome and they weren't mentioned.

One very important artist wasn't though. Brandi Carlile. She's absolutely brilliant. Lyrics, music, vocals. Everything about her is just incredible. If you get a chance check out the following song:
