Galaxie 500
Here's another great band that actually broke up in the early 90's. I've got two of their albums, this band rocks. Originally from New York, Galaxie 500 fronted by Dean Wareham on Guitar and Lead Vocals, Naomi Yang on Bass and Damon Krukowski on Drums had a sound all their own back in 1987. A rock journalist once said that Galaxie 500 were alternative rock when the term wasn't even invented yet.
If people have never heard of this band, it's not surprising, they were virtually unknowns in America right up until their demise; Galaxie 500 were actually bigger in Europe where they toured extensively. The group who's debut album Today that Melody Maker once called "an astonishing debut by anybody's standards" broke up in the spring of '91. The Galaxie 500 catalog consists of a mere 3 albums that are all solid works; Today, On Fire and the band's swan song This Is Our Music.
Galaxie 500 were a great band and one well worth checking out, they've got a very distinct sound.
