It is such a shame about whats happened with zombieguide. It seems to have divided the many. But all out opinions have been voiced on the ZG forums and all our goodbyes have been said. Lets get over it and move on.

I just hope the official sites start giving us more updates, i mean every couple of days like ZG did.

Anyway, to any none ZG users, Hi!!!!

But all of that crap they were saying on Dolores' official site is bullshit. I know Alex well enough to know that if Dolores would have seriously (not suggest it and drop it like they did) wanted him to run her official site, he would have done it in a heartbeat. What Thomas said is that they casually suggested it and then never emailed him back. When they finally got around to emailing him back the guy said he was no longer her manager. Or at least that's what I understand. He (Alex) mentioned them wanting the domain name before on the forums and said he would give it to them if they asked. I shouldn't stand up for him cos he's been such an ass in the past but I can't help it. What they're doing to him is bull. A lot of Cranberries fans would have forgotten them if it wasn't for Zg and this is completely uncalled for and unfair.

I'm disagreeing in a friendly way of course. You know I think you're awesome Kelly. ;)

No hard feelings, Meg, for sure! No worries there.

I actually hadn't gone to Dolores' website until after I read your post. I stopped going there since there were barely ever any updates.

Don't get me wrong, Zombieguide has been huge and quite the asset for 'berries fans, etc....I just have my own personal opinions about how it should've been handled. Doesn't change the way I feel about the site itself.

It is too bad it's being shut down. I'd rather see Alex pass over the domain doloresoriordan.com to Dolores and continue to run ZG. Everyone knows the website and it's not like it would fall to the wayside. Who knows, maybe he'll change his mind down the line.....

    Anyway....thats my other 2 cents....

Lol, I only read it cos they posted it on ZGF. I wouldn't have thought to go to Dolores' official site on my own...

Thomas said that it wasn't that they didn't want to give the name up, they'd have gladly done it, it was that Dolores' lawyers threatened to sue before even asking. ZG probably would still be up and running like usual if it wasn't for that. I dunno, it could've been handled a lot better. Doesn't she realize how much ZG did for fans? Apparently not. Where do we go now for news? How do we keep up now? We don't. *sigh*

    I'm over it.

It seemed like Alex had been losing interest over the last six months, anyways. The news section was almost never updated when there was a lot of news out there (hello! Dolores announced that she was going to be in another movie last month, that doesn't get reported on the front page?).

Cranberries fansite to close due to legal threat

The leading Dolores O’Riordan and the Cranberries fansite, Zombieguide.com, is to close after being threatened with legal action by the singer’s New York-based lawyers Caplan & Ross.

Alex Kraus, who operated the nine-year-old site from his home in Maryland, was issued with a cease & desist notice after registering the doloresoriordan.com domain name and using it to direct people to Zombieguide.com.

In a strongly worded letter, Brian D. Caplan claims that Kraus’ actions “constitute Federal Unfair Competition, False Endorsement, False Advertising and Trademark Infringement under Federal Law, and violations of applicable State laws governing False Advertising and Unfair Competition.”

    "); //--> <a href='http://ads.hotpress.com/adclick.php?n=a39676db' target='_blank'><img src='http://ads.hotpress.com/adview.php?what=zone:19&amp;n=a39676db' border='0' alt=''></a>

Kaplan concludes by saying that “both

injunctive relief and monetary damages” would be sought if Kraus fails to comply with the notice.

The Zombieguide.com webmaster’s response is to pull the plug on the site, which has been operating for nine years.

“So Dolores O’Riordan-Burton is threatening to sue me,” he rues. “Great. I think it’s about time I quit this Zombieguide thing. After all, if Mrs. Burton doesn’t appreciate this site, what’s the point in continuing to promote her career?

“I have been operating under the impression that (a) I have a fair use right to operate a fan site at the domain doloresoriordan.com; (b) that this is a non-commercial site; and (c) that the existence of a fansite at doloresoriordan.com does not harm Mrs. Burton’s career – and in fact promotes it.

“I am not sure what damages Burton seeks,” he continues, “because as far as I know, this site has done nothing but support her career and provide a place for thousands of fans to discuss the works of The Cranberries and related projects. As per Mrs. Burton’s apparent wishes, the most popular online forums for discussing her band and solo career are now closed.”

I actually said that I thought that this was kind of an excuse for him to pull the plug. I mean after nine years I'd be bored to.

    Hi all!!!

I was following ZG for all this years....now seems to be time to move to this forum. I'm sad for ZG.

    What a mistake by Dolores!

As Alex Kraus correctly pointed out, fan sites (and Zombieguide in particular) do nothing but supporting and promoting their favourite artists. Dolores' career couldn't absolutely be damaged by a site as popular as Zombieguide, it could only get benefits from it, and for free, as far as I know.

I wouldn't have expected Dolores to support such an action by her lawyers. It looks like a rude act not only towards Alex Kraus, but towards all her fans, who by now used to consider Zombieguide.com as an institutional site.

Thumbs down, dear Dolores. All my solidarity goes out to Alex Kraus.

    Meg:
I'm extremely disappointed in Dolores' actions, and will not forgive or forget. That's hardly a way to show appreciation to a website that has rallied the Cranberries fan world together.

I agree with you, Meg. I always do! Big Smile - Well, actually, it's not that true: you know I don't agree with you on a couple of things, if you remember our discussion of last summer... Stick out tongue

Anyway, I don't know how the domain thing was handled by both Alex Kraus and Dolores' management, but I'm sure Dolores' lawyers could come to an agreement with Alex Kraus if they really wanted to. They chose the hastiest way to solve the problem, but the hastiest way is also the rudest one towards the fans. Not a very smart move, in my opinion.

Before bringing lawsuits for the doloresoriordan.com domain, I think Dolores should consider two things:

    1. The doloresoriordan.com domain was registered by Alex Kraus in June 2004. It's unbelievable that neither the Cranberries' management nor Dolores herself considered registering such an obvious domain before 2004. If Alex Kraus was free to register doloresoriordan.com 10 years after Dolores had become a worldwide star, then Dolores should wonder who's really to blame.
    2. Instead of looking for other domains, Dolores should worry about her official site at doloresoriordan.ie, which is incredibly poor and looks like the site of a 3rd-class artist.

    Haha no you don't!

But I have to say what you just posted is exactly how I feel about the matter. There had to be some way they could've gotten it respectfully and they didn't. "Disappointment, oh you shouldn't have done... the things you did there..."

    Hey you all,

My opinion is: Despite this Zombieguide-closure-thing we should not forget that the most important thing about Dolores is her music - and the music and her concerts are still brillant. I think she sometimes is a bit "bitchy" (I saw her twice in my life and she was always kind of unfriendly to her fans after the concerts, didn´t react on autograph requests and just wanted to get onto her bus and so on...it´s a pity).

But nevertheless I appreciate and love her music and the way she performs it. And this is the most important thing about her - she is musician...and not responsible of asking a thousand times for using her own name for a homepage...That´s definitely not her job, it´s the job of her management.

    a second thing:

If some of you think they should cry because of Zombieguide-closure, they should ask Alex to record albums and do Dolore´s concerts. For some of you it seems that Alex is even more important than the artist herself. PityPityPity....
