What do you think why most people think that the all other cran albums are better  than "Wake up and smell the coffee"?

Why is "To the faithful departed", after big succes of the "Everybody else is doing it, so why can't we" and "No need to argue",sold in smaller number of copies?

People seem to either love or hate TTFD...

WUASTC perhaps doesn't generate as much attention because it is comparitively blander/middle of the road than other albums. It also gets harder to take people by surprise as you put out more albums and the public get used to your sound/move on to a different fad...

    Lucija:

In my personal and humble opinion, it's quite simple: Wake up and smell the coffee was not as good as their previous works.  Of course, when it comes to music tastes are a personal matter, so you may like more what I like less and vice versa, and none of us will ever be right or wrong.  But many people agree with me on the last album being less valuable than the previous ones – it doesn't mean bad on an absolute basis, it means worse compared to the others.  To me, it looks as if it was somewhat "forced": The Cranberries were expected to release their fifth album, and that's what they did, but I think their inspiration wasn't at their best.  Of course I still like some songs of the album (This Is The Day, Chocolate Brown, for instance), but some others are far below the band's average value.

I think No Need To Argue was The Cranberries' masterpiece.  It's terribly difficult, if not impossible, to repeat the success of a masterpiece, and it's quite unfair to ask an artist to find again that unique inspiration that had led to the masterpiece.  To The Faithful Departed is a beautiful album and I love it, but we can't blame it for not being as unrepeatable and splendid as its predecessor.  We can't blame The Cranberries if they couldn't repeat their masterpiece: we should thank them instead for giving us that masterpiece!

I'm grateful for everything that they ever done and ofcourse I don't want that they repeat anything. The thing is, to me they are so unique and every album is different than other. And idon't have a favourite album, and there isn't one album that is better than other. All 5 are the eaquily brilliant. Every album  wakes different feelings in me

media hype is still one of the greatest factors, have you ever think why madonna, britney spears, justin timberlake always on tv, magazine, simply because media gain so much from them, there are no equality when it comes of promoting one product in a market like the case of the cranberries they were first snubbed in their very own country, but when they hit the U.S. market, they become instant celebrity in ireland and brits press gone crazy over them, even paparazzi followed them wherever they go, and now they are busy spoiling young soon-to-be-popular musicians, that is also the reason why there are one-hit wonders,so even if we believe cranberries is the greatest band ever emerge in this part of the universe,it is still up to the big music companies how they are going to promote it to the whole world.

with all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful.Strive to be happy .

TTFD was waaaaay darker than the first too, I think. But it still is one of my favorites. I love all the albums really but I listen to them at different times, depending on what I'm feeling,

There was a couple of great songs on WUASTC but it just wasn't as good as the others. Too different, maybe. It wasn't a complete album like the first four. I kept skipping songs. I still do. I felt, when the album came out, that it was the end... I still hoped when I heard Stars and New New York that something was coming, that they worked it out, but you could feel that Wake up was more about Dolores and her keyboard than the others. That's my opinion. Still loved it live, but I don't listen to it as much...

    Hi everybody!

My opinion is quite the same as Kreacher's.

I love TTFD... it's one of my favourites... actually the 3 first albums are my absolute favourites, without any difference, different albums, for different moods, as I don't remember who said :)

Then Bury The Hatchet was very very good as well, but less Cranberriishi...

Then yeah... WUASTC, at the beginning I listened to it a lot, then I realized it was to persuade me, because it was The Cranberries, and I HAD to love it. I realized that if it wasn't the cranberries, I wouldn't listen to it, or just some songs...

And about the question why TTFD had less success... I guess because there wasn't a big hit  such as zombie...!

The funny thing about this thread for me is the fact that musicly both of this albums are way above the 1st two.  I love all of the albums equally, but I guess record sales equal quality now days.

TTFD is just so raw and WASTC is fantastic, the thing I will admit is that Dolores didn't belt it out on the latter one, but the album title track is one of the greatest songs of all time.

Someone mentioned something about "Bury", well this is easily perhaps the most techinacl album they have as its intricacies are by the dozens, and every single member seems to have a shining moment in certain songs.

     That's my 2 cents.
