Well, I was 7! It was in 94, with Zombie, at first, I didn't like it, well, I certainly didn't like it because my brothers didn't stop saying how much this song was great... and I had the sickness to say that everything my brothers liked sucked, and vice versa! Anyway, my brothers bought No Need To Argue...and I fell in love with it. I took their cd and didn't stop listening to it, my parents loved it too, so we played it in the car, at home, always, I simply loved it. Then we bought Everybody Else... and they became my fav band. They've learned me what music is. Dolores has learned me to listen to the lyrics (I used to translate them into french, and I've learned english thanks to that!)

Now I'm 20, I've seen the Cranberries 3 times, and I've got my ticket to see Dolores in Brussels! Can't wait...

    LOL, great question!

Wow, lets see, I was 11 at the time, in the year 1994 when I was watching music videos on MTV and Ode to My Family came on. I remembered the catchy "Do do do do's" and Delores' unique voice. Right after the video had finished, I never heard of that song or the band again until in 1998 when my cousin was listening to their sophmore LP, No Need to Argue. At that moment, my memories of that video from 4 years ago had returned! I borrowed the CD from my cousin and listened to the entire album, I instantly fell in love with NNTA. After months of borrowing NNTA, my cousin decided that I could have it Big Smile. Soon afterwards, I bought Faithful To The Departed and Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can't We? The following year I bought Bury the Hatchet on its release date and the same with Wake Up And Smell The Coffee in Oct. of 2001. Since then I've been a huge fan of the Cranberries and eagerly await for their next LP.

    Upcoming albums {Artist - LP title - Release Date}
    Delores O'Riordan - Are You Listening? - May 15th, 2007
    Wir Sind Helden - Soundso - May 25th, 2007
    The Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist - July 7th, 2007

    [:-)] awesome question tGDA.

It was my 12th birthday and I got all the normal stuff books, cloths ect.... but my brother gave me two wrapped presents and I could tell by the size that they were cds...but I wasn't sure who they were by.  So I tore them open and what do I find two Cranberries cds. My brother had bought me No Need To Argue and To The Faithful Depart, heaven.  I was in heaven as soon as I put NNTA in I felt like I was floating on air.  Just the way the words flowed together brought a sudden peace to my soul.  The Cranberries became my Happy music, whenever I was down I would pop nnta in and sit back and relax.  Soon after I went and bought Everybody Else... I've been hooked ever since. There was no turning back for me, I just wanted to hear more.  Still to this day I find their music relaxing and calming, sometimes it's as if their music is the missing part of my soul.

When I see you my dreams become reality.

    Hi tGDA,

The first time I heard the name of "the Cranberries" from one of my friends in high school was 1994. I didn't know anything about them and hadn't heard anything like that before. My friend gave me the CD of "No need to argue", When I listened to it, I got a sort of addicted and I couldn't listen to any other song anymore. I had the lyrics and I memorized all the album and it was so nice for me to be able to sing the way dolores does. I love her accent and her voice so much. The intersting point to me was that I had learned english in american accent , but now I whisper the songs in Irish accent like her. Smile

Hope to have a good community with u all.

Hello everyone..Thank you for this nice topic..Here is my story...

It was 6 years ago when I was at high school.Everyday, during the launch time, there was special songs coming from the music system in the school. When I first listened to Promises, I was surprised by Dolores' beautiful, perfect voice.First I didn't know who she was and the name of the song.and then I searched for it,waited everyday to listen to it again.I asked my friends and they didn't know. Then after a week later they played it again and listened to it memorizing some parts of the lyrics. I searched through the Google and find it.I was really happy and then I listened as more songs as I can find.I became a fan of Cranberries and I am really happy for that.Every time I listened to Dolores, I feel like I am blessed.

    Hi Marjan,

Did you know we became Cranberrie-Fans in the same year, with the same album? Funny is, that the first song I heard and made me a fan, is Ode to my Family. Ode to my Family is nr 1 from the album and No need to argue the last song.

By the way, because of your name Marjan, are you Dutch? I'm.

I first heard of The Cranberries in '96 when I saw the video "Salvation"... I never liked the band... Heard Zombie, but never gave it a chance and just changed the channel everytime the video came on TV...

Then I think it was in 98 when I heard "Promises" and I liked that song... But it wasn't played very much...

Then in 2001 I heard Analyze, and I couldn't believe how humble and soft and pure her voice was and how the song was... Then in 2002 I downloaded a few tracks off the net... Started to like the band even more..

Then in late 2006, I was on a certain message board and the title was "Don't You Remember When Music was actually good?" And I clicked it, and the person posted a video for "zombie"... Right there I was convince that this band was awesome and I got all their albums and became a bigger fan... Bought their Stars DVD as well ;) Well worth the purchase...

So yeah I took a good 10 years for me to be where I'm at with the Cranberries... They finally grew on me haha...

So, FM, you eventually became a fan with WUASTC and as a matter of fact you've ranked Analyse and Wake Up And Smell The Coffee among your favourite songs.

My story with the Cranberries is somewhat opposite: I became crazy about them when NNTA was released.  I was a very composed guy at the time Geeked, so I would never have thought I could become maniac about a rock band (I don't know if this sentence is in English, forgive me), yet that's what I became.  I don't know what it was, I guess that Dolores' voice in the context of the simplicity and essentiality of their music stroke a very special note inside of me.

Instead I find WUASTC quite poor compared to the previous works.  Somehow, I think WUASTC was the symptom of a decreasing creative vein that eventually led to the band's breakup.  There are a few tracks I like very much (This Is The Day, Chocolate Brown), yet I think too many are way below the Cranberries average.  Just a personal opinion, of course, I don't want to change your mind! Big Smile

The thing is I downloaded 4-5 songs off the net... Just random songs, just to see if they band had a lot of "filler' type songs...

    The ones I downloaded were

Promises, Analyze, Every Morning, Wake Up And Smell The Coffee, This Is The Day and I loved all those tracks... But even though I liked them I still didn't pay attention to them... It was until I heard and saw the Zombie video a few months ago, then I said, "my goodness, music was REALLY good back then!"

Brilliant thread everybody - really warms the heart Smile

As a very young teenager I spent a lot of time watching music videos. They really were my passion for quite awhile - ahh the glory of marketing!

I recall seeing the video for "Linger" when it came out and remember thinking 'oh a new Everything But The Girl song' (HA!). Found the video racy at that young age, the black and white style reminiscent of Madonna's "Justify My Love". Quickly learned it was not EBTG and became a Cranberries listener. Yes

I remember hearing "Linger" and that was it.....I loved them. I really don't have much of a "story" - I think the first time I saw them live was during the NNTA tour (although, something tells me I saw them open for another band prior to that....) -

I've seen them various times for each tour they've done, and I'm looking forward to the next phase of my Cranberries "relationship" - to see Dolores SOLO!

Who knows whats next......hopefully we have many more years of the band, in different forms, and that they (together/solo) give us more music to enjoy!

Did you pay a penance for such a sinful thought, Gwen?

I blame it on the short hair, which was a popular look for awhile there! I quickly retracted the thought when I got a better look at Dolores' face Wink Much different, ahhh, jawline.

Hmmm....I really haven't got any intersting story about "how I became a Crans fan".but....I can say that it was few years ago, maybe nine, maybe ten.I liked it but i didn't really understand it because I was too young. Now when I'm older much older ;-) I can't live without Dolores voice, and this brilliant music!!!

I don't know am I have right but first song which I heard it was "Zombie". yeah it was incredible experience. But the biggest expression on my sensibility had "Linger", thanks to this song I fall in love in the Cranberries:d Now after a few years I can say that listening to Dolores is better than anything else, maybe without sex;p hehe

That's my story,my simple story, simple but true....
